It has been more than two months since the opening of On Common Ground, it has been an amazing experience, and I am grateful for the people who have help and supported along the way. 😊
The feedbacks and lesson learned from this exhibition are valuable to my career so far. There is more that I need to improve on as an Art Practioner, and I can't wait for my next show someday in the future.
Thank you everyone for the support! It is time to work even harder! 😁 Enjoy the rest of the photos.
The past few week has been a nervy yet exciting journey. It all started with an artwork that by our dear Mr Eng Joo Heng and I was inspired to create a work based on his technique.
Since young, I have always been interested in history. I still remember studying for social studies instead of brushing up on my math when I was in primary school.
So with the chance to create given, I decided to create an artist book based on the history of Singapore. It will be a 4 volume series starting with the Founding of Singapore in book 1, follow by Tales of World War II in book 2 and Bukit Ho Sui and the rise of HDB in book 3 and lastly the Future of Singapore in book 4. My aim was to create a pictorial history book so that we can appreciate our short history.
In Volume 1, the design is hand drawn and transferred onto 4 different sheets of lino. Each sheet represents different colour holding different details to the final part of the image that will be an overlay onto each other.
The Contemporary Printing Festival will be held on 11 - 22 Jan at Capitol Piazza. With the exhibition, workshop and performance that are all printmaking related. Come have a look and I hope to see you there!
Recently I had the honour to be invited to conduct an artist talk to the students of Tanglin Trust School. During the talk, a teacher that I greatly admired showed me his sketchbooks and I was inspired by the amount of content and the use of Instax in it.
Therefore, I went out to get an Instax camera myself and I have been working on my sketches for the upcoming Printmaking book exhibition. I am working on the theme History, and the images below are some of my progress so far.
Currently I am working on the composition and methods create this book. It will be exciting to see where this leads to.
Lastly, here's a test print of the composition sketch. Are you able to guess which part of our country history is this?
